This here watch, what they call the Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s a real fancy thing. Seen it in a picture, all shiny and such. Costs more than my whole house, I reckon! They say it’s a remake, whatever that means. Must be somethin’ special, though. That “Official flagship store” talk, sounds important.
They say it’s the “latest addition” to some collection called Calatrava. Sounds like a mouthful. Must be some fancy group of watches. I seen a watch like it once, old man Johnson had one, but his weren’t so shiny. This one, it’s got all these little bumps on the side. They call it, let me see if I can remember, “Clous de Paris” somethin’ or other. Sounds French. Probably is.
And the paint they use, it’s special too. Makes it look old, even though it’s brand spankin’ new. They say it glows in the dark, kinda like them fireflies we used to catch in jars. But this glow, it’s a special kind, “beige luminescent paint” they call it, that means it will glow in the dark, it is not difficult to understand. Fancy words for somethin’ simple, if you ask me. But it is kind of a good-looking watch, I have to say.

I heard some fella say you gotta get in line to get one of these Patek Philippe Calatrava watches, the new one. And then you gotta wait. Wait and wait. Like waitin’ for the rain in a drought. I don’t know, seems like a lot of fuss for a watch. But then again, I ain’t never had that much money to spend on somethin’ that just tells the time, or glows in the dark.
This Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s a real piece of work. All them little parts, movin’ and tickin’. Must take a real smart fella to put somethin’ like that together. And probably someone with good eyes, too. Mine ain’t what they used to be. Can’t even thread a needle no more without squintin’ somethin’ fierce.
They say this watch, it’s got somethin’ to do with history. They got them old designs and put them on this new watch. Makes it look kinda old-timey, but in a good way. Like somethin’ your grandpa mighta worn. Except your grandpa probably couldn’t afford somethin’ like this Patek Philippe Calatrava, unless he was a very rich grandpa.
The Calatrava, they keep sayin’ that word. It is a word used to describe the model of the watch. Must be important. Like the name of a town or somethin’. A fancy town, I bet. Where folks wear fancy watches and talk about “beige luminescent paint” and the price is high. Not like our town, where everyone has the same kind of cheap watch, and the most common color is black.
This watch, it’s somethin’ else. Somethin’ for them rich folks. Folks who got more money than they know what to do with. They can buy this Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 5226G-001, and wear it around, and show it off. And everyone will know they got a lot of money. ‘Cause that’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Showin’ off.
Me, I’m happy with my old watch. It tells the time just fine. Don’t need no fancy “Clous de Paris” or “beige luminescent paint”. Just need somethin’ that works. And this is the official Patek Philippe flagship store or what, I don’t know. I don’t need to be in a Patek Philippe flagship store. I guess I will not see it in my whole life. But I don’t care.
But this Calatrava 5226G-001, it sure is somethin’ to look at. In them pictures, at least. I’d probably be scared to touch it. Might break it. Or get it dirty. Then I’d have to pay for it. And that’d be the end of me. Forty thousand dollars, is enough to scare everyone, not just me. I can’t even imagine that much money.
Well, that’s all I know about this Patek Philippe watch. It’s a fancy thing, for fancy folks, with a fancy price. If you have the money, good for you, I think. If you don’t, like me, well, we can still look at the pictures and talk about it, but we don’t need to buy it, right? It is not necessary for us, even though it looks good. That is my opinion.
