Alright, guys, gather around, gather around! Today, I’m gonna share my little adventure on how I tried to remake a Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227J-001. Yeah, the “original order”, you know what I mean.
First things first, I got my hands on some parts. Found a decent movement, not the real deal, of course, but it ticks. Then, got a gold-plated case, it’s a good alternative, and it looks pretty close to the real 5227J-001, shiny and all that. A simple dial, nothing too fancy, just like the original.
The real pain? The hands. Man, those tiny hands were a headache. Tried to get them just right, spent hours just fiddling with those little things. They are so small and delicate, it’s like doing surgery on a fly. I managed to make it look like.
Now, putting it all together, that’s the fun part. Carefully assembled everything, making sure the movement sits right in the case, fixing the dial, and attaching those troublesome hands. Took my time, didn’t want to mess it up. After all that, finally it took shape, and you know what? It ain’t half bad.
- Checked the timekeeping.
- Polished the case a bit more.
- Adjusted the hands again because I’m a perfectionist.
- Admired my handiwork for a good hour.
It’s not a real Patek, obviously. But hey, for a remake? It’s a classic style and a pretty darn good replica. Feels good on the wrist, looks the part. You wouldn’t know it’s not the real deal unless you’re some watch expert, squinting at it with a magnifying glass. It’s a right remake, it’s like the king of simple, and simple is good.
So, that’s my story of remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227J-001. Was it a perfect copy? Nah. Was it a fun project? Heck yeah! That’s all folks, hope you enjoyed my little adventure. If you decide to try this out, take your time with it.
