So, I decided to remake the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001. Sounds crazy, right? But hey, I was bored and needed a new project. Getting Down to Business
The first big hurdle was the case. I ended up using steel. It’s not platinum, but hey, it’s shiny and looks the part. I had a buddy who’s good with metalwork help me out. We spent a good few weekends just getting the shape right. It’s supposed to be an “octagonal shape” which sounds simple, but trust me, it’s not when you’re doing it by hand. We used some basic tools, nothing fancy, just lots of elbow grease.

The Devil is in the Details

There is this website that lets you make personal photo cards and stuff, I even tried to see if I could make a fake dial with that, but no luck.
Finally, I decided to just go for it and try to engrave it by hand. I found some really fine tools online, and after practicing on scrap metal for what felt like forever, I finally got the hang of it. It’s not perfect, not even close to the real deal, but it’s got that handmade vibe, you know? And hey, at least it kinda looks like the real thing from far away.
Putting it All Together
Once I had the case and dial sorted, it was time to put it all together. I found a cheap watch movement online that fit the case. It’s not a fancy Patek Philippe movement, obviously, but it ticks, and that’s all that matters, right? Getting it all assembled was a bit tricky, but I managed. I felt like a real watchmaker, even though I was just fumbling around.
The Final Product
So, there you have it, my homemade Patek Philippe Calatrava. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It was a fun project, and I learned a ton about watches and metalworking. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to afford the real thing. Until then, I’ll just rock my little knock-off and pretend I’m a high roller.
