Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag for a while now. You know, the one from their official flagship store? It’s so classic and chic, I just had to try and remake it myself. It’s a fun little project, and let me tell you, it was quite the adventure!

First, I spent hours just staring at the pictures online, trying to get every detail right. The Galleria bag is named after the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, which is pretty cool. I focused on the Saffiano leather, which is like Prada’s signature thing. It’s got this cool cross-hatch texture that’s apparently made by a special machine. I definitely don’t have that, so I had to get creative.

I found some regular leather from a local craft store, which isn’t the same as Saffiano but I did my best to be careful and not damage it. I grabbed some tools, like a leather punch and some needles, and I started measuring and cutting. The bag has this really clean, simple shape, so I drew out the pattern on some paper first. I measured everything like five times to make sure it was perfect.

Then came the sewing. Oh boy, sewing leather is tough! I broke a few needles, but I finally got the hang of it. The original bag has a two-way zipper on top, and it’s lined with this logo nylon stuff. I found a similar fabric for the lining, and I even managed to add a little zipper pocket inside, just like the real one. I tried to add the two-way zipper but after failing many times I gave up and used a normal zipper instead. After a week of hard work, I decided to call it a day.

The most satisfying part was seeing it all come together. I attached the handles, which was also tricky, and I even tried to mimic the little metal feet on the bottom of the bag. I used some metal studs I found and pushed them through the leather. They’re not perfect, but they look pretty close!

The last step was adding the Prada logo. I didn’t want to just slap on a fake logo, so I made a little leather tag and embossed it with a simple “P”. It’s a nod to the real thing without being a total copycat.

  • Step 1: Research and gather inspiration.
  • Step 2: Source materials (leather, lining, zipper, etc.).
  • Step 3: Create a pattern based on measurements.
  • Step 4: Cut leather and lining according to the pattern.
  • Step 5: Sew the pieces together, including the zipper and pocket.
  • Step 6: Attach handles and any other hardware.
  • Step 7: Add a personal touch (like my “P” tag).

In the end, my bag isn’t an exact replica, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s got that Galleria vibe, and it was so much fun to make. I won’t be using it as my actual bag but it’s really nice to look at. Plus, I learned a ton about working with leather, which is always a bonus. It’s not perfect, but hey, I made it myself, and that’s what counts, right? And it looks so nice for a handmade bag, it’s crazy! It took me like two whole weeks from start to finish, working on it whenever I had some free time. Definitely a labor of love! I’ve decided to not use it as a real bag, it’s like a trophy of my little adventure in bag-making.
