Okay, so, a while back I got it in my head that I wanted to try and remake one of those fancy PRADA bags. I’m talkin’ about the Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. Yeah, the name is a mouthful, I know. It looked real nice in the pictures online, all sleek and what not. I saw it at specialty stores, but I thought, “Why not give it a shot myself?” I mean, I’ve done some crafty stuff before. How hard could it be, right?
First, I went online and looked at a bunch of pictures of these Galleria bags. I studied them real good. Noticed they got these two handles on top, but also a long strap you can use to wear it across your body. I took some notes about the size and how it all looked, printed some pictures to use as a guide. That’s what I did first.
- Get the materials
- Cut out the pattern
- Sew together
Then, I went to the local stores to find materials. I found some leather that looked kinda like the stuff in the pictures, it’s called Saffiano leather, real tough-like, and picked out a nice color. Bought some sturdy thread, some metal pieces for the buckles and whatnot. I didn’t want it to look cheap, you know?
Next, I got to work. Drew out a pattern on some paper, trying to copy the shape of the Galleria bag. It was a bit tricky, gotta admit. I cut out the leather, following my pattern, and started sewing. Now, sewing leather ain’t like sewing regular cloth. It’s tough! But I managed. I sewed the pieces together, slowly but surely, making sure everything lined up right. Then I added the handles and the long strap, and put on all those metal bits.
My Homemade PRADA
After a whole lot of work, I finally finished it! My very own homemade PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. It ain’t perfect, not like the ones they make in the factories, I’m sure. But I’m pretty proud of it. I carried it around, showed it off to my friends. It wasn’t exactly like the real thing, but it was my version. I learned a lot from doing it, and who knows, maybe I’ll try making another one someday. But for now, I’m just gonna enjoy using the bag I made.
Now that I’m done, I can’t say I would really recommend this to anyone. It’s a lot of work! This bag ain’t for everyday use, but it’s good for gifts.
