Okay, so, about this Yves Saint Laurent YSL COLLEGE BAG, I decided to remake it, the original order version. You know, I’ve always been a huge fan of YSL, such an iconic brand. I remember a while back they changed their name to “Saint Laurent Paris,” and I was like, “Why would they do that?” Anyway, the whole thing got me thinking about their history, especially their ready-to-wear line, “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche.”
I started digging around, looking into the history of the YSL fashion house. Turns out, Yves Saint Laurent’s first collection, the Trapeze line in spring 1958, was a massive hit. It got a standing ovation! And this year is what would have been his 80th birthday, crazy right? It made me want to do something to celebrate his legacy. Then it hits me, I should remake one of his classic design.
I went through the YSL archives, checking out all their old stuff. I have to say, they really shaped fashion into what it is today. I mean, from Le Smoking to safari jackets, the man was a genius. Finally, I decided to focus on the COLLEGE BAG, you know, that classic, sophisticated look that just screams YSL.
First, I gathered all the materials. I wanted to stay as true to the original as possible, so I spent hours researching the type of leather they used, the hardware, everything. It was like going on a treasure hunt, but online and in fabric stores.
Then came the actual making of the bag. I drew up the patterns, carefully measured and cut the leather, and started sewing. I’m not gonna lie, it was a lot of work. My fingers were sore, and there were times I wanted to throw the whole thing out the window. There was once I cut the leather in the wrong size, and I have to order the materials again. It really tested my patience, to be honest. But I kept going, because I was determined to see this through.
- Painstakingly stitching each piece together, making sure the seams were perfect.
- Attaching the hardware, which was a bit tricky, but I managed to figure it out.
- Then adding the lining, the pockets, all the little details that make the bag functional and beautiful.
After many late nights and countless cups of coffee, I finally finished it. I stepped back, looked at the bag, and I have to say, I was pretty damn proud of myself. It looked just like the original, or at least pretty close to it. Holding it in my hands, I felt this connection to Yves Saint Laurent, to his creativity and his vision. He really was a leader in fashion industry and I am really proud that I can remake one of his classic design.
This whole experience taught me a lot, not just about making a bag, but about the history of fashion, the artistry, and the dedication it takes to create something truly special. It was tough, but totally worth it. And now, I have my very own, handmade YSL COLLEGE BAG, a little piece of fashion history that I get to carry around with me every day. It feels good, really good.
